About

The Chicago COBOL Users Group (ChiCOBOL) was founded in June 2007, as a local affiliate of the COBOL User Groups (COBUG). No visible activity has happened since then, but as of August 15 the planning has reached a stage where we’re ready to send an initial message to the current set of registrants within the next few days.

The course to be taken by the group will depend on member response, but the general idea is along these lines:

  • Meetings with presentations by expert users and vendors on advanced COBOL topics, best practices, new features, etc.
  • A library of training resources, including information on COBOL training and certification
  • A forum for discussion of COBOL language, products, etc.
  • A place where employers may post job listings

If you would like to help run the group, or would like to be able to post new items to this blog, please contact Matt Fisher at chicobol@comcast.net. COBUG recommends that local groups have several leaders, and there will certainly be plenty to do.
